Home made solar heating and solar hot water systems are not for everyone, but if you're a DIYer (Do It Yourselfer) and have some basic construction skills or if you know someone who does you may want to give it a try. This MTD sunshed is one of many solar projects made from discarded construction materials and recycled plastic drums. The 200 gallon heat storage system inside the shed could have be used to heat my house or supply free hot water but instead I used the heat in the multi_tank_heat_storag vault and cure the polyurethane on the differential controllers. With the help of the collected solar heat I was able to pay for the Suntuf glazing and other materials in less than two months. I used a 50 watt PV panel to drive a pump and collect solar winter heat. Thank you Mr. Sun
This is actually a very small solar heated workshop. The roof is made with six MTD solar collectors and a 4O watt pump with a battery backup used to supply the trickle down system with water. The efficiency of the heat collection system is about 50% in the month of January.
